Ballet Masterclasses & Intensives
High-level events with leading artists — variation masterclasses, technical clinics, anatomy sessions, mock audition panels, and intensive programs that compress months of insight into concentrated experiences.
When an extraordinary artist enters the room, everything changes
A masterclass is not a lesson. It is an encounter — a compressed, high-intensity experience where a dancer comes face to face with an artist whose career represents what they aspire to become. In a single session, a former principal of the Mariinsky can reshape how you think about port de bras. A contemporary choreographer from NDT can unlock movement pathways you didn’t know existed.
The Ballet & Dance Division's masterclasses and intensives deliver these moments — concentrated exposure to exceptional artistry that private lessons and weekly classes cannot provide alone. They are the peaks in your training landscape.
Intensives compress weeks of training into focused programs — audition preparation, variation coaching, summer intensive readiness, or deep dives into specific techniques. Goal-driven, deadline-bound, and designed to produce measurable results.
Three centuries of the master teacher
When Marius Petipa rehearsed his ballerinas at the Mariinsky, he was giving masterclasses — individual attention from the greatest choreographic mind of his era. When Anna Pavlova demonstrated variations in her London studio, she transmitted knowledge no textbook could contain.
In the 20th century, Rudolf Nureyev gave legendary classes at the Paris Opéra. Natalia Makarova coached young dancers in her signature roles. Suzanne Farrell transmitted Balanchine's aesthetic at the Kennedy Center. Sylvie Guillem taught masterclasses that redefined what the body could achieve.
Today, masterclasses are how the tradition passes from generation to generation. Every great dancer can name the masterclass that changed everything.
A masterclass does not teach you new steps. It teaches you a new way of seeing — through the eyes of someone who has lived what you are trying to learn. The tradition
Six categories of masterclasses & intensives
Every event falls into one of these categories. All are capped in enrollment and led by faculty of exceptional caliber.
Full company-level classes taught by principal dancers, ballet masters, and master teachers. Barre through allegro with individual corrections and artistic insight.
Deep coaching on classical and contemporary solo variations by artists who have performed them on the world's greatest stages. Stylistic detail, musical phrasing, performance quality.
Focused, problem-solving sessions on specific challenges: pirouettes, grand allegro, pointe work, port de bras, partnering. Taught by teachers known for diagnostic precision.
Concentrated 2–5 day programs combining technique, coaching, conditioning, and audition prep or repertoire work. Structured like a summer intensive, delivered online.
Workshops with physiotherapists, sports psychologists, and dance medicine specialists. Injury prevention, nutrition, performance anxiety, and the mental demands of audition seasons.
Masterclasses in contemporary technique, improvisation, and choreographic exploration led by working choreographers and company dancers from contemporary ballet and modern companies.

Inside a masterclass
- Camera on, full participation. You are dancing, not watching. Every masterclass is interactive and participatory.
- Individual corrections. Groups are capped so the guest artist can give personal feedback to every dancer in the room.
- Artistic context. Great master teachers don’t just demonstrate — they explain the history, musicality, and intention behind every step.
- Challenge beyond comfort. A masterclass should push you. That discomfort is where growth lives.
- Recording available. Most events include a replay link so you can review and practice what you learned.
How masterclasses connect to the rest of your work
- Private lessons give you the individual corrections and coaching relationship that form the foundation of your technique
- Classes & studios give you the discipline of weekly group training, ensemble awareness, and progressive difficulty
- Masterclasses give you concentrated exposure to exceptional artists, new perspectives, and high-level challenge
- Audition programs give you goal-driven preparation for the specific moments that determine your career
The strongest dancers combine all four. Your private teacher and Division advisors can help you build a schedule that includes the right masterclasses at the right time.
A masterclass is the spark. Private lessons are the steady flame. Classes are the structure. Together, they produce the artist. The Global Conservatory
