Charles Kim is a multidisciplinary music educator, producer, and researcher specializing in 21st-century musicianship, music technology, and creative practice. Based in the United States, he brings over thirteen years of teaching and professional experience across higher education, recording, and live performance.
Charles holds a Doctorate and currently serves as faculty at The Juilliard School and Columbia University, where he teaches music production, sound design, composition, songwriting, and pedagogy. His academic work includes published research with MIT Press and the Harvard Educational Review, reflecting a rare integration of scholarship and applied creative practice.
As a practitioner, Charles has produced commercially successful recordings, developed best-selling music technology products, and worked across genres including jazz, pop, rock, folk, film/media, and improvisation. His approach bridges instrumental performance (guitar, bass, piano) with advanced production, mixing, mastering, and sound design, preparing students for contemporary musical careers that demand both artistry and technical fluency.
At The Global Conservatory, Charles teaches Beginner through Professional students through private lessons, studio classes, group lessons, and masterclasses.
