Visual Discipline for Military Auditions
Military band auditions evaluate more than your sound. Service-band panels assess your physical bearing, your composure under pressure, your respect for protocol, and your ability to hold a position with the same intensity you hold a phrase. TGC's Visual Discipline coaching prepares the part of the audition most candidates don't train for.
What Visual Discipline Covers
Bearing & Posture
Standing-at-attention sustained over 20+ minutes. Sitting-at-attention without micromovement. Marching positions adapted for stage.
Eye Discipline
Fixed-point gaze under panel scrutiny. Avoiding glance-downs at music between phrases. Reading the conductor without lateral head motion.
Instrument Handling
Bring-instrument-up protocols. Resting positions. Stand approach and exit. The 'first 10 feet' of the audition room.
Composure Under Stress
Recovering from a missed note without facial reaction. Maintaining bearing during panel side-conversations. Audition-room silence.
Uniform Etiquette
Audition attire as a substitute for uniform. Hair, jewellery, and accessory standards expected at audition. Concert-dress logic.
Audition-Day Choreography
Walk-in to walk-out flow. Music handling. Panel acknowledgment. Exit posture.
Faculty
TGC's Military Band Visual Discipline faculty include current and former Sergeants Major and senior NCOs of US Army Field Band, US Marine Band, Royal Air Force Band, and other service bands. The coaching is done by people who have sat on the audition panel, not by people guessing at it.
Format
- Single Session ($120, 60 min): Diagnostic with feedback. Suitable 4–8 weeks before audition.
- 4-Session Package ($420): Posture, eye/composure, room choreography, dress rehearsal.
- Audition-Week Intensive ($800): 4 sessions in 5 days. Full mock-audition with video review. Recommended within 14 days of audition.
