Choral & Vocal Pedagogy
Master the art and science of teaching voice. Build ensembles that inspire. Lead rehearsals that transform singers into artists. This is where vocal educators become exceptional.
Teaching Voice Is More Than Technique
Great choral directors and vocal pedagogues do more than teach notes and rhythms. They build communities. They develop healthy singers. They create experiences that transform both performers and audiences.
This diploma provides the comprehensive training most music education programs skip — the psychology of teaching voice, the physiology of sustainable singing, the leadership skills that turn groups into ensembles, and the programming vision that builds loyal audiences.
"Whether you lead a church choir, direct a school program, conduct a professional ensemble, or teach private voice — this diploma will transform how you develop singers."
You'll work with master teachers who have built world-class programs, study the latest research in vocal health and pedagogy, and complete practical projects you can use immediately in your own teaching.

Frequently Asked
No formal conducting degree is required. This program focuses on vocal pedagogy and rehearsal leadership rather than conducting technique. You should have experience leading or teaching singers — whether as a choir director, voice teacher, or section leader — but we welcome applicants from diverse musical backgrounds.
While the curriculum is grounded in choral tradition, the vocal pedagogy principles apply across genres. We've had successful applicants who teach contemporary commercial music (CCM), musical theatre, worship music, and world music traditions. The science of the voice is universal — our approach helps you apply it to your specific context.
Plan for 8-12 hours per week. This includes 2-3 hours of live sessions, asynchronous video content, reading, and practical project work. The program is designed for working professionals — many of our students maintain full teaching schedules alongside their studies.
The program is designed so you can apply what you learn with your own ensembles immediately. Assignments often involve implementing techniques with your current choir or teaching studio, documenting the results, and reflecting on the process. You'll also participate in peer teaching exercises during live sessions.
That's fine. Many assignments can be adapted for private voice teaching, or completed using video analysis of other ensembles. Some students use the program to prepare for positions they're seeking. Your capstone project can be designed around your specific situation and goals.
We're working on formal continuing education recognition for the program's launch. Many employers and licensing bodies accept professional development programs for credit — check with your specific state or organization. Upon completion, you'll receive documentation of hours and curriculum that can support credit applications.
A Master's degree typically takes 2-3 years and covers broader academic requirements. This diploma is a focused 14-week intensive on vocal pedagogy and rehearsal leadership specifically. It's ideal for professionals who want targeted skill development without the time commitment or expense of a full graduate degree, or as a complement to existing credentials.
