Iuliana Surleac – Private Lessons
Iuliana Surleac
Voice Faculty | The Global Conservatory
“Your voice is not something to fix. It is something you return home to.”
Iuliana Surleac is a singer and voice teacher from Vaslui, Romania. She began singing as a child, studied music from the age of fourteen at the Octav Băncilă College of Arts in Iași, and completed her bachelor’s degree in Performance, Classical Singing at the National University of Music Bucharest in 2016.
After eight years of classical vocal training she began teaching. Working as a vocal coach showed her how much more there was to learn: students came to her wanting to sing pop rather than classical repertoire. That led her into a wide study of vocal method — working with coaches across Romania, completing Cheryl Porter’s courses, and training in Complete Vocal Technique with an authorised CVT teacher — bringing each of them directly into her individual lessons.
In 2024 she moved to Denmark to begin a master’s in Music Education at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. There she facilitated Free Your Voice, a series of workshops centred on body work rather than vocal technique, on the principle that a free body makes a free voice. She also developed Music for Wellbeing, exploring how music affects our mental state and how powerful the voice can be when used to bring comfort to people living with stress and anxiety.
Believing that no single method fits everyone, she has studied the Anne Rosing Method alongside Speech Level Singing, Fitzmaurice Voicework, Kristin Linklater’s vocal method, and Paul Newham’s Voice Movement Therapy.
Iuliana describes her work in four parts: a vocal coach, training voices to sing whatever the student wants, in any manner; a teacher, explaining how the voice works, how to care for it, and how it connects to the body; a facilitator, making a space where students feel welcome and safe and where confidence is built; and a guide, leading students back to an authentic voice that was always there. She has worked with singers from 5 to 56 years old, from beginners finding their voice to professionals sharpening their craft. Everyone is welcome as they are, because she believes everyone can sing.
