About TGC
What is The Global Conservatory?
The Global Conservatory is a live online conservatory offering one-on-one lessons, group classes, masterclasses, and certificate programmes with internationally accomplished faculty. We are not a marketplace, not a content library, and not a passive video course platform — every lesson is live, every faculty member is vetted, and every student is matched to an instructor whose pedagogy fits their goals.
TGC is headquartered in Hong Kong, with faculty teaching from 14 countries across four continents.
How is TGC different from MasterClass, Berklee Online, or Lessonface?
The differences are structural:
- vs. MasterClass: MasterClass is celebrity-led pre-recorded content. TGC is live one-on-one and small-group instruction with working professional teachers, with feedback and progress tracking.
- vs. Berklee Online: Berklee Online is one university's online extension, primarily asynchronous and degree-focused. TGC is live, synchronous, multi-faculty, and pedagogy-first.
- vs. Lessonface or marketplaces: Marketplaces are find-a-teacher platforms with limited curation. TGC is a structured conservatory: faculty are vetted, certificates have curriculum, and students are guided through pathways rather than dropped into a search results page.
Where is TGC based, and what's the institutional structure?
The Global Conservatory is registered in Hong Kong. Faculty teach from 14 countries; students study from across the world. Day-to-day operations are coordinated centrally; pedagogy is led by division heads and the Faculty Office.
Lessons & instruction
How do online lessons actually work?
Lessons are conducted live via Zoom (or, for some faculty, an alternative video platform). After you book a session, you receive a confirmation email; the faculty member contacts you to confirm scheduling and any pre-lesson preferences; and you join the live session at the agreed time. You'll need a reliable internet connection, your instrument, a webcam, and a quiet space.
For audio quality on a music lesson specifically, our Zoom Audio Settings guide walks through the right configuration.
What instruments and subjects can I study?
TGC currently teaches across 14 instrument families plus voice — covering brass, strings, woodwinds, percussion, keyboard, voice, modern and electronic instruments, and world-music traditions. Specific instruments within these families include violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, piano, organ, classical guitar, electric guitar, voice (classical, jazz, contemporary, opera), trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, drum kit, percussion, conducting, composition, and a substantial roster of world-music instruments and traditions.
Browse our full Faculty by Instrument page or Faculty A–Z for the current roster.
How do I choose the right teacher?
Three approaches:
- Browse: Visit our Faculty A–Z or Faculty by Instrument to view profiles, credentials, lesson formats, and rates.
- Be matched: Email info@theglobalconservatory.com with a brief profile (instrument, level, goals, time zone, budget) and we'll suggest two or three faculty options within 5 business days.
- Trial lesson: Book a 30-minute trial lesson directly with a faculty member to confirm fit before committing to a regular schedule. Visit Book a Trial.
What are typical lesson durations and prices?
Most lessons are 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes. Faculty set their own rates within the following observed market ranges:
- Emerging faculty: $30–$75 per 60-minute private lesson
- Established faculty: $75–$150 per 60-minute private lesson
- Master faculty & principal artists: $150–$300+ per 60-minute private lesson
Group lessons are typically 40–60% lower per session. Masterclass tuition (performer or observer) is published per masterclass. Full ranges on our Tuition page.
Can I take a trial lesson?
Yes — most faculty offer 30-minute trial lessons. A trial lets you confirm the fit before committing to a regular schedule. Trial lessons are eligible for a full refund if cancelled before the lesson begins.
What's the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
- Reschedule at least 24 hours in advance: free, no penalty
- Reschedule within 24 hours: at the faculty member's discretion (typically one accommodated per term)
- If your faculty member cancels with less than 24 hours' notice, you receive a full credit toward future sessions
- Cancellation at least 48 hours in advance of a single-session booking: full refund
- Lesson packages: pro-rata refund of unused sessions
Full details on our Refund & Cancellation Policy page.
Do you offer group lessons and masterclasses?
Yes. Many faculty offer group lessons (typically 4–12 students), studio classes, ensemble coaching, and chamber music sessions. We also run regular masterclasses with renowned guest artists, with both performer seats (direct coaching) and observer seats. The masterclass schedule is published on the Upcoming Masterclasses page.
Certificates & credentials
What certificates do you offer?
TGC offers 78 certificate programmes across 10 academic divisions: Performance & Vocal, Opera & Vocal Arts, World Music, NextGen Music & AI, Health & Wellness, Pedagogy Institute, Orchestral Training, Degree Track (launching 2028), Ballet & Dance (launching 2027), and Drama & Theatre (launching 2027).
Certificates range from foundational (8–12 weeks) to advanced/professional (24–32 weeks). Earned by completing specified coursework, assignments, and assessments. See the full catalogue at Certificates Overview.
Are TGC certificates accredited or degree-equivalent?
TGC certificates are non-degree credentials. They document substantive completed study and assessment, are issued by The Global Conservatory, and are widely accepted as evidence of professional development and continuing education. They are not equivalent to a degree from an accredited university.
Our degree programmes (BM, MM, DMA) launch in 2028 with international university partners and will be conferred jointly by TGC and the partner institution.
Students & age
What ages do you teach?
We welcome students of all ages — from young children (with parental enrolment, supervision, and safeguarding) to adult learners, returning musicians, and working professionals seeking advanced study. There is no minimum or maximum age. Pre-college teenagers preparing for conservatory auditions and adult amateurs studying for personal growth are equally part of the TGC community.
What protections apply for students under 18?
Specific safeguarding protections apply for minors:
- A parent or guardian observes every live session
- All written communication with the student is copied to the parent or guardian
- Sessions involving minors are recorded for safeguarding purposes
- The parent and student have access to all lesson notes, recordings, and academic records
- Faculty teaching minors complete the TGC Safeguarding Module before the first session
Concerns can be raised at any time to info@theglobalconservatory.com. Full framework on our Parental Consent and Participation Agreement.
Faculty & teaching
How do I apply to teach at TGC?
Visit Apply to Join Our Faculty to submit your application. We review credentials, teaching experience, performance / scholarly achievements, and pedagogical alignment. Applications are reviewed within 14 business days; selected applicants are invited to a 30-minute orientation call before formal appointment.
Faculty are independent contractors who set their own rates and schedules. Specific terms are documented in the Faculty Agreement, with details in our Faculty Handbook and Faculty Policies.
Who are TGC's faculty?
TGC faculty are working performers, scholars, and pedagogues — typically holding current or recent appointments at recognised conservatories, positions with major orchestras and opera companies, advanced degrees from accredited institutions, internationally recognised performance careers, or recognised standing as tradition-bearers in non-Western and world-music idioms.

Technology & setup
What technology do I need?
For a workable online lesson:
- A reliable internet connection (10+ Mbps recommended; wired ethernet preferred)
- A device with a working camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or desktop)
- The Zoom client (free) or alternative platform per your faculty's preference
- A quiet space free of interruptions for the duration of the lesson
- For piano/keyboard students: an acoustic piano or weighted-key digital keyboard is strongly preferred
For audio quality specifically, our Zoom Audio Settings guide walks through the right configuration.
Are lessons recorded?
By default, lessons are not recorded. Recording requires the consent of both the student (or parent/guardian, if a minor) and the faculty member. Sessions involving students under 18 are recorded by default for safeguarding purposes; recordings of credentialed assessments are retained as part of the academic record.
See our Recording & Consent Policy.
Payment & financial aid
How does payment work?
Payment is processed securely at the time of booking via major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and (in supported jurisdictions) PayPal and SEPA bank transfer. All published rates include the platform service fee — no surprise add-ons at checkout. Receipts are issued automatically.
Multi-session packages (4, 8, 12, 16 lessons) are typically offered at a small discount. Certificate and intensive tuition can be paid in instalments.
Do you offer scholarships or financial aid?
TGC operates a small but growing scholarship programme: need-based scholarships, merit scholarships (by audition), geographic scholarships for students from underrepresented regions, and founding-cohort discounts for early enrolment in select certificate programmes. Application materials are on our Scholarships & Financial Aid page; specific inquiries to info@theglobalconservatory.com.
Institutional & partnership
Does TGC partner with schools, conservatories, or arts organisations?
Yes. TGC offers four institutional partnership tiers — Explorer, Partner, Premier, and Enterprise — including white-label deployment, co-branded certificates, and bulk-enrolment terms. Partners include independent music schools, youth orchestras, community music programmes, university music departments, and corporate education partners. The founding partner cohort is now open. See Institutional Partnerships or write to info@theglobalconservatory.com with your institution's profile.
