TGC Young Artist Competition - The Global Conservatory
Launching Summer 2027

TGC Young ArtistCompetition

Nurturing the next generation of extraordinary musicians

The TGC Young Artist Competition is an international platform for musicians ages 8–18 to share their artistry with the world. Designed from the ground up for the digital age, our fully online format means every talented young musician can participate — regardless of where they live, which school they attend, or whether they can afford to travel.

We celebrate not just technical precision, but musicality, expressiveness, and the unique artistic voice of every young performer. Two age divisions ensure that every participant is evaluated among peers at a comparable stage of development.

Our Mission

Every young musician deserves a stage. The TGC Young Artist Competition is dedicated to finding and celebrating extraordinary talent in young performers around the world.

Our virtual format removes the barriers that keep so many talented students from competing — the cost of travel, the need for a nearby competition venue, the missed school days. Here, your living room becomes your concert hall.

With two age groups — Junior (ages 8–13) and Senior (ages 14–18) — participants are evaluated among peers at a comparable stage of musical development. Our jury assesses artistry, musicianship, and stage presence, providing every participant with constructive written feedback to fuel their continued growth.

Five Instrument Divisions

Find Your Division

Each division is evaluated by specialists in that instrument family. Repertoire should demonstrate the performer’s technical command and musical maturity appropriate to their age group.

Strings

Violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Solo or accompanied repertoire with piano backing track or accompanist recording accepted.

Winds & Brass

Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, and euphonium. Solo or with piano accompaniment.

Voice

Classical art song, opera, musical theatre, or sacred repertoire. Age-appropriate selections in any language with piano accompaniment.

Guitar

Classical guitar solo repertoire. Standard and contemporary works welcome. Amplification optional for contemporary pieces.

For Parents & Teachers

A Competition Designed for Growth

We understand that behind every young musician is a family and a teacher investing time, energy, and love. The TGC Young Artist Competition is built to serve the whole ecosystem around a developing artist.

Safe Online Environment

No live video calls with strangers. Submissions are pre-recorded and uploaded securely. All jury deliberations happen offline. The platform is built with the safety of minors as the top priority, and parental consent is required for all participants under 18.

Constructive Feedback

Every participant receives a detailed, personalized written evaluation from the jury. Our adjudicators are experienced pedagogues who understand how to deliver feedback that inspires and instructs. This is not a pass/fail experience — it is a learning opportunity.

Educational Value

Preparing for a competition teaches discipline, goal-setting, and self-evaluation. Our format lets students prepare at their own pace, record at home, and learn from the experience without the stress of an unfamiliar stage. Teachers can guide the entire process.

Recording Tips & Support

You do not need a professional studio. We provide detailed guides on how to create a high-quality performance video using a smartphone or tablet. Advice covers camera placement, audio settings, lighting, and common pitfalls. Many participants record successfully in their own living room or practice room.

The Jury

Internationally Accomplished Adjudicators

Our jury will consist of internationally recognized performers and pedagogues — soloists who have performed on the world’s greatest stages, professors at leading conservatories, and seasoned competition adjudicators who specialize in evaluating young talent. Each jury member is selected for their expertise in their instrument division and their ability to provide nurturing, constructive feedback alongside rigorous artistic evaluation.

All adjudication is conducted from pre-recorded video submissions. Jury members do not interact directly with participants during the evaluation process.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Absolutely. The TGC Young Artist Competition is designed with the safety of minors as the highest priority. There are no live video calls or real-time interactions between participants and judges. All submissions are pre-recorded and uploaded through a secure platform. Parental or guardian consent is required for all participants, and personal information is never shared publicly. Only the performer’s first name and country are used in any public materials, and only with explicit consent.
A smartphone, tablet, or home camera is perfectly sufficient. Film in a quiet room with good natural or even artificial lighting. Position the camera so the performer and instrument are fully visible. Record in landscape (horizontal) mode. Keep the camera stationary throughout — no zooming or panning. Audio quality matters, so avoid rooms with heavy echo. We provide a detailed recording guide with visual examples upon registration. No professional equipment or editing is needed.
Yes. Teachers are encouraged to help students select appropriate repertoire, prepare their performance, and manage the technical aspects of recording and uploading. However, the performance itself must be the student’s own unassisted work. The video must be a continuous, unedited recording with no splicing, overdubbing, or post-production audio enhancement. Teachers may operate the camera.
Entry fee details will be announced when registration formally opens in January 2027. TGC is committed to keeping the fee affordable for families, and fee waivers are available for students who demonstrate financial need. No young musician should be excluded from this competition for financial reasons. Register your interest now to receive early-bird pricing when it becomes available.
Repertoire should be age-appropriate, technically suitable for the performer’s level, and chosen to showcase their strengths as a musician. For the Junior Division, program length is 10–15 minutes with at least two contrasting works. For the Senior Division, 15–25 minutes with at least one work from before 1900 and one from after 1900. Detailed repertoire guidelines for each instrument will be published when registration opens. Your teacher is the best guide for repertoire selection.
For instruments that typically perform with accompaniment (strings, winds, brass, voice), piano accompaniment is strongly encouraged but not strictly required. You may use a live accompanist present during the recording, a pre-recorded accompaniment track, or perform unaccompanied if the repertoire allows. If using a backing track, please ensure the balance between soloist and accompaniment is clear. Piano division participants perform solo.
Yes. The competition is open to young musicians worldwide. There are no nationality, residency, or citizenship requirements. The submission portal and all communications are in English, but repertoire may be in any language. This is a truly global competition, and we actively welcome participants from countries and communities that are underrepresented in traditional competition circuits.
Every participant receives a personalized written evaluation from the jury panel. Feedback covers technical command, musicality and interpretation, stage presence, program selection, and areas for growth. Our adjudicators are experienced teachers who understand how to deliver constructive criticism in a way that encourages and motivates young performers. Many families tell us that the feedback alone makes the experience worthwhile.
You are welcome to record multiple takes and submit the best one. The submitted video must be a single continuous, unedited performance — no splicing together of different takes. If your child makes a small mistake, consider whether the overall performance is still their best work. Jurors evaluate the complete musical picture, not just note accuracy. A performance with strong musicality and a minor slip is often more compelling than a technically safe but uninspired one.
Register your interest using the form below. You will receive email updates when registration opens, when jury members are announced, when detailed repertoire and recording guidelines are published, and when any competition policies are finalized. You can also follow The Global Conservatory on social media for the latest news. We anticipate opening full registration in January 2027.
