An annual competition for instrumental soloists and singers to perform a complete concerto with the Global Youth Orchestra on its international tour.
The International Concerto Competition is the most prestigious solo performance opportunity offered by The Global Conservatory. Open to instrumentalists and singers ages 16–26, the competition identifies exceptional young soloists through a rigorous three-round process culminating in a live performance of a complete concerto with the Global Youth Orchestra.
The winner receives a cash prize, a professional recording session at an internationally accomplished studio, and the featured solo performance on the GYO's international concert tour — performing before thousands in Europe's finest concert halls. The competition accepts all orchestral instruments and voice, with standard concerto repertoire from all periods.
Our Vision
A competition should not be a gladiatorial arena. It should be a celebration of artistry — a stage where young soloists reveal the depth of their musical imagination, the maturity of their interpretive vision, and the technical mastery that makes that vision audible.
The International Concerto Competition seeks soloists who do more than play accurately. We seek artists who have something to say — who bring a personal, compelling interpretation to the great concerto repertoire and can communicate that vision to an audience of thousands while collaborating with a full symphony orchestra.
Competition Structure
Three Rounds
Each round raises the stakes, narrowing the field from hundreds of applicants to three finalists who perform complete concertos with the Global Youth Orchestra before a distinguished international jury.
Preliminary (Video)
A recorded video performance of the exposition and development section of your chosen concerto movement, plus a contrasting short work. The panel evaluates tone, technique, musicality, and interpretive maturity. Approximately 500 applicants are narrowed to 30 quarter-finalists.
Semi-Final (Live)
A live performance (via video conference or in-person) of the complete first movement of your chosen concerto with piano accompaniment. The panel evaluates interpretive depth, technical command, and collaborative musicianship. 30 quarter-finalists become 12 semi-finalists, then 3 finalists.
Final (With Orchestra)
The three finalists perform their complete concerto with the Global Youth Orchestra in a public concert. The jury awards first, second, and third prizes. The winner receives the grand prize package including a professional recording session and featured solo on the GYO tour.
Repertoire
The Great Concerto Repertoire
Competitors may choose any standard concerto from the orchestral repertoire. The competition welcomes all instruments and voice. The chosen concerto must be a work of substantial artistic and technical demands — typically a major concerto from the Classical, Romantic, or 20th-century repertoire that is regularly performed by international soloists.
Popular choices include the violin concertos of Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Brahms; the piano concertos of Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, and Prokofiev; the cello concertos of Dvořák, Elgar, and Shostakovich; and major concertos for wind instruments, percussion, and voice. The jury values both standard repertoire performed with exceptional artistry and less-common works that reveal the breadth of the soloist's musical personality.

Grand Prize Package
The competition winner receives a comprehensive prize package designed to launch a solo career. Beyond the cash award, the professional recording session at an internationally accomplished studio produces a commercially releasable recording that serves as the foundation of the winner's artistic portfolio.
The featured solo performance on the GYO's international concert tour is the crown jewel of the prize — performing a complete concerto with a 100-piece orchestra before audiences in Europe's most prestigious concert halls. This competition launches in 2030. Winners will perform as featured soloists on the GYO's international concert tour, with prizes designed to launch careers through recordings, management introductions, and sustained performance opportunities.

The Jury
International Jury Panel
The competition jury is composed of distinguished international soloists, conductors, and artist managers who bring decades of experience at the highest levels of the classical music profession. Jury members are selected for their artistic authority, pedagogical insight, and commitment to identifying genuine musical talent rather than mere technical facility.
The jury evaluates not just accuracy and technique, but interpretive maturity, tonal beauty, communication with the audience, and — in the final round — the ability to collaborate with an orchestra while maintaining a compelling solo identity. Written feedback is provided to all semi-finalists and finalists, offering insights that serve each young artist's ongoing development.

Application Timeline
How to Apply
The competition operates on an annual cycle aligned with the Global Youth Orchestra's summer season. Applications open in September and close in December, with the preliminary round adjudicated in January, semi-finals in March, and the live final with orchestra during the GYO's summer session.
Applicants must submit a completed application form, the required video recording, a musical biography, and a letter of recommendation from a current teacher or mentor. There is no application fee — the competition is committed to accessibility for talented young musicians regardless of financial resources.
