Our Mission

Musicians today are their own businesses. Every recital booked, every student recruited, every recording released demands entrepreneurial thinking.

The Center for Music Entrepreneurship equips TGC students and alumni with the skills, strategy, and support to build sustainable careers in music — whether performing, teaching, producing, composing, or creating entirely new roles that don’t yet exist.

Inspired by the pioneering Entrepreneurial Musicianship departments at leading conservatories, TGC’s center brings career development into the core of music education — because the world needs musicians who can thrive, not just survive.

Musicians Are Entrepreneurs

Every gig booked is a sales call. Every student taught is a client relationship. Every recording released is a product launch. Every social media post is a marketing campaign. The musician’s life has always been entrepreneurial — we just never called it that.

The Center for Music Entrepreneurship makes it intentional. We give you the language, the frameworks, and the strategic thinking to approach your musical career not just with passion, but with purpose and a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

All currently enrolled TGC students and alumni are eligible to access Center programs, including advising sessions, workshops, certificate programs, and grant opportunities. There is no separate application to use Center services — enrollment in any TGC program grants access.
Absolutely not. The Center is designed for musicians at every stage of business knowledge — from those who have never thought about the business side of music to those already running their own studios or labels. Our advising sessions and certificate programs meet you where you are and build from there.
Each certificate program consists of a structured curriculum covering essential business topics relevant to that specialty. Programs are completed alongside your primary TGC studies or as a post-graduation credential. Each certificate has its own dedicated page with full curriculum details, requirements, and enrollment information.
Individual Innovation Grants provide up to $5,000 per project. Grants are awarded based on the quality and feasibility of the proposal, potential impact, and alignment with the Center’s mission. All grant recipients also receive mentorship support to help bring their project to completion. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Advising sessions are 45-minute one-on-one meetings conducted virtually with experienced industry professionals. Sessions can cover career planning, business model design, marketing strategy, financial planning, brand development, or any topic relevant to your professional goals. You set the agenda based on what you need most.
The Startup Incubator is a 12-week structured program for TGC students and alumni with music-related business ideas. Participants receive mentorship, business model development support, pitch preparation, and access to our investor and industry network. The program culminates in a pitch showcase where participants present their ventures to a panel of industry leaders and investors.
Yes. While we recommend starting with the Music Entrepreneurship certificate as a foundation, you are welcome to enroll in multiple certificate programs at once. Many students find that combining complementary certificates — such as Entrepreneurship with Marketing, or Rights & Licensing with Grant Writing — creates a powerful professional skill set.
Career advising sessions and workshops are included with your TGC enrollment at no additional cost. Certificate programs carry their own tuition, detailed on each certificate’s individual page. The Innovation Grant and Incubator programs are free to apply to, and grant funding is provided at no cost to the recipient.
Upon completing any Center program or certificate, you gain access to the TGC Music Entrepreneur Alumni Network. This includes our private online community, invitations to networking events and the annual summit, access to our project collaboration board, and introductions to industry contacts. The network grows with every student and programme cohort.
Everything at the Center is built specifically for musicians and the music industry. Our curriculum, case studies, advisors, and resources all come from within the world of music. Rather than generic business frameworks, we teach the specific strategies, relationships, legal structures, and revenue models that working musicians actually need. It’s business education designed by and for the people who make music.
