About the Bootcamp
The Summer Music Production Bootcamp is a fast-paced, hands-on introduction to the world of modern music production. Over two intensive weeks, you will learn to navigate a digital audio workstation, record and edit audio, design sounds, build beats, mix tracks, and prepare your music for release — all under the guidance of working producers and engineers.
This bootcamp is software-agnostic. Whether you use Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL Studio, or any other major DAW, our curriculum and mentors meet you where you are. We teach principles and workflows that translate across every platform, so you build skills that last.
No prior production experience is required. We designed this program for beginners and early intermediates who are ready to stop watching tutorials and start making music with real-time guidance, structured projects, and a community of fellow learners. By the end of two weeks, you will have finished tracks, a production workflow, and the confidence to keep creating on your own.
What You Will Learn
Six core modules covering every stage of the production process, from opening your DAW to releasing a finished track.
DAW Fundamentals
Master the interface, workflow, and essential features of your DAW. Learn to navigate the session view, arrange tracks, use MIDI and audio, manage plugins, and build an efficient production environment that lets you focus on creating rather than troubleshooting.
Recording Techniques
Learn to record vocals, instruments, and live audio with whatever gear you have — from a laptop microphone to a home studio setup. Cover signal flow, gain staging, microphone placement, and the art of getting a clean, usable take every time.
Beat Making & Sound Design
Build beats from scratch using drum machines, samplers, and synthesizers. Explore rhythm programming, sampling techniques, synthesis fundamentals, and sound design workflows that give your tracks a distinctive sonic identity.
Mixing Essentials
Transform raw tracks into polished productions. Learn EQ, compression, reverb, delay, panning, and level balancing — the core tools of mixing. Develop your ear for balance, clarity, and depth through guided exercises and real-time feedback on your mixes.
Mastering Basics
Understand the final stage of production: mastering. Learn to prepare your mixes for distribution, apply mastering-grade processing, check your work on multiple playback systems, and achieve competitive loudness without sacrificing dynamics or clarity.
Release Strategy
Your music deserves to be heard. Learn how to prepare tracks for streaming platforms, understand metadata and distribution, create artwork specifications, and develop a basic release plan. Leave the bootcamp not just with finished tracks, but with a roadmap for sharing them.
A Typical Day
Every day balances instruction, hands-on practice, and community.
Technique Lesson
Each morning begins with a focused, instructor-led lesson on the day's core topic. Sessions are interactive and hands-on — you will follow along in your own DAW, ask questions in real time, and leave each lesson with a concrete skill or technique you can immediately apply to your projects.
Hands-On Lab
Afternoons are devoted to guided production labs where you work on your own tracks with a mentor available for one-on-one help. Apply the morning's lesson to your current project, experiment with new ideas, and get real-time feedback on your work. This is where the learning transforms into music.
Listening Sessions & Critiques
Evenings bring the cohort together for listening sessions and peer critiques. Share works-in-progress, hear what your fellow participants are creating, and receive constructive feedback from both peers and instructors. These sessions sharpen your critical listening skills and inspire new creative directions.
What You Need
The barrier to entry is low by design. Here is everything you need to participate.
Required
- Computer — Mac or PC with at least 8GB RAM and a recent operating system. This is your production workstation.
- DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) — Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL Studio, or any major DAW. Free trials are available for most platforms and are perfectly adequate for the bootcamp.
- Headphones — Closed-back headphones are strongly recommended for accurate monitoring. Over-ear studio headphones are ideal, but any decent pair will work to start.
- Internet Connection — Stable broadband sufficient for video calls and screen sharing.
Optional (But Helpful)
- Microphone — A USB condenser microphone is great for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and foley. Not required if your focus is electronic production or beat-making.
- Audio Interface — Useful if you want higher-quality recording and monitoring. Entry-level interfaces from Focusrite, PreSonus, or similar brands work well.
- MIDI Controller — A small MIDI keyboard or pad controller makes beat-making and playing software instruments more intuitive and fun.
- Studio Monitors — Desktop speakers designed for music production. Headphones are sufficient for the bootcamp, but monitors are a worthwhile investment as you continue producing.
No prior production experience is needed. If you can turn on a computer and open an application, you have everything it takes to get started.
What You Will Leave With
Finished Tracks
Complete, mixed, and mastered original tracks that you created from scratch during the bootcamp. These are not exercises — they are real pieces of music ready to share, stream, or add to your portfolio.
Mixing Portfolio
A collection of mixing exercises and projects that demonstrate your developing skills in EQ, compression, spatial processing, and balance. This portfolio serves as both a learning resource and a showcase of your progress.
Release-Ready Master
At least one track fully mastered and prepared for distribution to streaming platforms. You will understand the technical specifications and workflow required to take a song from finished mix to published release.
Production Workflow
A personalized production workflow that fits your creative style and technical setup. By the end of the bootcamp, you will know how to start, develop, and finish a track from scratch — the single most valuable skill in music production.

Our Summer 2027 production faculty is being assembled. Expect a team of working producers, mix engineers, and sound designers with credits spanning major-label releases, film and television, video games, and independent music. Our mentors are chosen not only for their professional achievements but for their ability to teach, inspire, and meet students exactly where they are.

Scholarships Available
Merit-based and need-based scholarships are available for the Production Bootcamp. Indicate your interest in financial aid on the early registration form and we will send you the scholarship application when it opens. No one should be excluded from learning to create music because of financial circumstances.

Do I need any prior music production experience?
No. The bootcamp is designed for beginners and early intermediates. If you have never opened a DAW before, you are in the right place. Our curriculum starts with the fundamentals and builds progressively, so every participant develops a solid foundation regardless of their starting point.
Which DAW should I use?
Use whichever DAW you have access to or are curious about. The bootcamp is software-agnostic — our instruction focuses on principles and workflows that apply across all platforms. Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, and Pro Tools are the most commonly used, but any major DAW will work. Free trials are available for most platforms if you want to try before committing.
Do I need to know how to play an instrument?
No. While instrumental skills can be helpful, they are not required. Modern music production tools — drum machines, samplers, step sequencers, and MIDI editors — allow you to create professional-quality music without traditional instrumental proficiency. We welcome producers, beat-makers, and creators of all backgrounds.
What genres of music can I produce?
Any genre you choose. The production principles we teach — recording, editing, mixing, mastering — apply to every style of music. Whether you want to produce hip-hop, EDM, pop, rock, folk, jazz, classical, ambient, or any other genre, the skills you develop in this bootcamp will serve you. Our mentors have experience across a wide range of styles.
How much time should I plan for each day?
Plan for approximately four to five hours of scheduled activities daily — morning lessons, afternoon labs, and evening listening sessions. Beyond scheduled time, you will want additional hours for working on your own projects, experimenting with techniques, and completing assignments. The pace is intensive, but that is what makes the progress remarkable.
Can I really finish tracks in just two weeks?
Yes. The bootcamp is structured specifically to help you complete tracks. Our project-based approach means you start building toward finished pieces from day one, with daily mentor guidance keeping you on track. Most participants finish two to three complete tracks by the end of the program, plus additional mixing exercises and works-in-progress.
Is this program only for young students?
Not at all. While the minimum age is 14, we welcome participants of all ages. Adult learners, career changers, and hobbyists make up a significant portion of our cohort. The skills taught in this bootcamp are equally valuable whether you are a teenager exploring music production for the first time or an adult professional adding production to your creative toolkit.
What happens after the bootcamp ends?
You leave with finished tracks, a production workflow, and access to the TGC alumni community where you can continue sharing work and connecting with fellow producers. You will also receive priority consideration for future TGC programs, including advanced production courses and full certificate programs as they become available.
